Harmony Day - Friday 19 March

17.03.21

Dear Families

This week we are celebrating Harmony Day on Friday!!

Harmony Week is a time to celebrate Australian multiculturalism, and the successful integration of migrants into our community. Australia is one of the most successful multicultural countries in the world and we should celebrate this and work to maintain it

At Our Lady Queen of Peace, we have so many nationalities in our community, and in my 8 weeks, I have been delighted to see the inclusivity of our students! There seems to be no boundaries.

Our values echo Harmony!

Peace – Justice – Respect - Compassion

Harmony Week celebrates Australia’s cultural diversity.

It’s about inclusiveness, respect and a sense of belonging for everyone.

The message of Harmony Week is everyone belongs. This week is an opportunity for me as a leader of a multicultural community to reflect on how well we are going and how we can improve:

I have asked myself..."is diversity reflected in all aspects of our work and community?"

I am pleased to see cultural diversity in our classrooms, staff, various School Captains, and SRC reps. I wonder if we do as well in parent committees, events and other aspects of our work?  At times, there are barriers such as language that can be challenging. How can we move past this? A challenge is to ensure we are welcoming, inclusive and well represented. As I meet with families, I am challenging myself to learn about new cultures, taking time to listen carefully and find out about individual challenges to help continue to build an inclusive community. The theme for 2021 is Everyone Belongs. I invite you to join with me to consider:

  • How can I be involved, to bring the voice of diversity?
  • How can I be more welcoming as everyone belongs?
  • How can we encourage cultural diversity?

Please join with us at our Harmony Day Assembly on Friday morning at 9am on the basketball courts to celebrate our diversity! Everyone Belongs!
